About Me

services to clients in their own homes, in local parks and open spaces and in my own Personal Fitness Studio in Pontefract.

Although I specialise in Kettlebell Training, Weightloss, Toning and Body Conditioning, I also work alongside other local health care professionals offering pre and postnatal fitness and also injury rehabilitation.

I now have a very wide and varied client base from young mums wanting to get back into shape after having a baby, to middle aged men and women wanting to lose a bit of weight and tone up. I also have several clients who have been with me for over a year and who are now learning advanced kettlebell techniques on top of their regular training programs as well as sportsmen and martial arts players.

Each of my clients have very different and personal fitness goals, but the one thing they all have in common is a genuine desire to change. Although I can give you the support, knowledge and structure to ensure that you realise your goals, you must be 100% committed as well. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts.

We will work together constantly assessing and developing your program to make sure that it is as absolutely effective as it can be. No one style of training is right for everyone, but through constant monitoring and honest, open communication we will find the program that is right for you and although its not always an easy journey, it will be safe and enjoyable and most importantly, we will get results!

Qualifications

I am a fully qualified Advanced Personal Trainer, Extreme Kettlebell Instructor and Nordic Walking Instructor, registered with REPS (The Register of Exercise Professionals) at Level 3 - Advanced Instructor.

I hold full Public Liability Insurance and am also first aid trained. I am more than happy to show you copies of my qualifications and insurance certificates should you require. You can also read my REPs entry by clicking on the logo.

Other related interests

Unsurprisingly I have always had a very keen interest in sport and fitness but most recently have been concentrating on Judo (I train with Knottingley Judo Club) and in 2008 completed my first full season of Triathlon.

I still try to run regularly, usually 10k to half marathon but also to balance that with free weight sessions in my gym 2 or 3 times a week. Away from the gym I like to ski as often as possible, at least twice a year, and more often than not in Austria or France.

Feedback

This is what some of my recent clients had to say:

"Having trained with Liam for just over two months I can not reccommend him highly enough.  He was great at motivating me and seemed to know what my limits were right from the start.

After my first session I feared I may never walk again but I stuck with it and after session 3 I not only had the hang of it but enjoyed it so much that I decided to buy a kettlebell so that I could train on my own too.  Prior to training with Liam my exercise of choice was running which I thoroughly enjoyed but which didn't seem to give me enough muscle tone so I knew I needed more variety.  I am not a fan of weight training as I find it repetitive and boring so thought I would give kettlebells a try.

After 4 weeks I could see a difference in the muscle tone particularly in my arms and stomach and now instead of running 4 times a week I run twice a week and do 2 kettlebell sessions.  I can honestly say my body has never been more toned.

The best thing about training with a kettlebell is that a good session only lasts half an hour but believe me you know you've done it!"

"Just had a couple of Kettlebell sessions with Liam and can't recommend him highly enough.

Been using a bell a little while and putting my back at risk with poor technique etc and Liam has corrected that in 2 sessions, mind you i gained a few aches and pains and a bruise or 2 along the way !!
Cheers Liam"

"The training I had with Liam was both intense and fun, I have never been stronger or more toned than when I was training with Mr O'Brien. Cheers mate"

"I have been training with Liam since around February 2008. Suzi and I started with the Kettlebell training which I have to say is one of the most challenging workouts I had ever undertaken. Kettlebells has become one of my true loves in life and some 18 months on we still train with him once to twice a week.

Liam is a very inspiring trainer and is always one step ahead coming to the sessions with different routines and, sometimes even different equipment so the sessions are always interesting.

As I travel for work and find it hard to maintain a routine in the week he also suggested running encouraging me to do my first 5 mile race last July. I now run regularly in between sessions and have the odd 5 and 10k booked in here and there - something I would never do without his encouragement and continuous support. It sounds corny but training with Liam has definitely changed my life and given me more confidence and all I can really say is a great big THANK YOU!"

"I started training with Liam just over a year ago now and the results have been amazing. I was always very conscious of keeping fit and healthy, but had never really had the confidence to push myself. Training with Liam made me realise that I was capable of doing more.

As a result, I now enjoy running regularly in 5k and 10k races and completed my first triathlon last year, which was a fantastic feeling. I would highly recommend personal training to anyone; whether you are a complete beginner or an athlete, Liam will help you achieve new goals.

As a result of training alongside Liam, I have actually decided to study for a personal training qualification myself -something I would never have considered possible if I hadn't have been inspired by my own experience of personal training."
