Why Use a Personal Trainer

Whether you want to look good for a special occasion, your wedding or a holiday, have already started an exercise program but are struggling with ideas or motivation or are simply looking to lose a bit of weight and tone up - a Personal Trainer could help.

We'll start with an initial consultation to discuss your fitness goals, your current lifestyle and state of health and to maybe try some different training styles to find the best way to progress.

This initial meeting is FREE OF CHARGE and is without commitment or obligation. This also gives you a chance to meet me and to make sure that you feel comfortable training with me before embarking on a long term course or program of exercise.

Should you then decide to progress with personal training we will develop a balanced, structured training plan designed to deliver maximum results in minimum time and each training session with me will be pre-planned to ensure that it is safe, enjoyable and effective.

We'll also test your current fitness levels and body composition (Body Fat %, BMI, Skeletal Muscle and Visceral Fat) so that we have an agreed starting point and a benchmark against which to measure your progress. We will then retest every 4 weeks and change, adjust and develop your training plan to ensure continued progression.

The variety of exercises available is almost endless, from simple bodyweight exercise and stretches to light resistance work with a fitstick or free weights, kettlebells, running or core stability and can be conducted at your home, work or in local parks. I now also train clients in my own private gym here in Pontefract.

Why not book a FREE session with me now and take that first step towards the new you?

Choosing a Personal Trainer

The decision to seek the services of a Personal Trainer is for most people a big lifestyle change and choosing the Personal Trainer that is right for you is essential. There are a lot of Personal Trainers out there nowadays but if you stick to the following basic guidelines you should find the Trainer that is right for you. All reputable Trainers will be more than happy for you to ask these questions and to give you the information required.

> Qualifications - Ask for their qualifications and for copies of their certificates. They should at the very least have a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification and a First Aid Certificate.

> Are they registered with a Professional Body eg. REPS (The Register of Exercise Professionals) or NRPT (The National Register of Personal Trainers)? You can check their registration is current at www.exerciseregister.org/ or www.nrpt.co.uk

> Are they insured? Ask to see a copy of their insurance certificate and check the dates. Insurance is there to protect you.

> Experience. How long have they been working? What is their history? Don't be afraid to ask for references from CURRENT clients. Qualifications are essential but experience is just as important.

> Speciaility Qualifications /Experience if required. Do you have a particular requirement or medical condition that requires specialist knowledge? Check that your Trainer has knowledge and experience of your requirement / condition.

> Convenient working hours. Do they have appointments available at times that are convenient for you? Do they do early mornings or evenings?

> Professional and friendly manner. Do they come across as polite and professional? Do you feel comfortable? You will spend a lot of time with your trainer and will need to feel comfortable with them. Trust your instincts. If it doesn't feel right, make your excuses and walk away.

> Where do they train? Do they just use a particular gym where you must be a member? Will they visit you at home or do they have their own private gym or studio? A lot of people don't feel comfortable training in large public gyms and for them home visits or a private gym or studio may be best.
